Spring arrives in time for Sport Relief SUP in Largs

We packed up the inflatable SUPs (iSUPs) on Friday and hoped and prayed that the weather would be kind to us on Sunday in time for our 11am SUP launch. I’m delighted to say that the weather was fine: warm and sunny with barely a breath of wind in the morning. This then prompted a panic hunt for sun cream! However, the water temperature was still a bit nippy so most opted to wear their O’Neill Wetsuits!

In addition to our own iSUPs from Naish, Red Paddle Co and Starboard, Rhona came along with her Starboard Windsup and John joined us with his rigid board by Cortez. Later on in the day Angela and Martin arrived with their Red 10’6 and Bic 14ft rigid board in a dazzling orange colour. We also welcomed local photographer and well kent face Marc Turner and his children Emily and Ben. It was difficult to tell who was having more fun messing around on the SUPs at low tide. Finally Freya popped down for a bit in the afternoon just in time for our second outing on the water.

Lots of fun was had by all, those on rigid boards tried the inflatables and vice versa. Mid-ocean transfers presented no problems other than the fear of falling in to the Largs channel in March (brrr!). Meanwhile, much to the bemusement of local berth holders, there were even a couple of impromptu sprint races in the Marina!

Thank you to everyone who came along to have a go and to Largs Sailing Club for providing hot chocolates afterwards. If you would like to have a go at Stand Up Paddleboarding in its many guises, please drop us a line or keep an eye on the Paddlefast events page on Facebook for details of the upcoming demo days and SUP Clubs.
